Samco Sport Sponsored IOM TT Winner Michael Dunlop joins forces with BMW Motorrad UK for a BMW Motorrad Motorsport supported road racing team

Michael Dunlop, seven-times TT winner, will be racing BMW motorcycles for the 2014 road-racing season, including at the world-famous Isle of Man TT.

The 24-year-old, from Northern Ireland, is joining forces with BMW Motorrad UK and Hawk Racing (who also operate the Buildbase BMW Motorrad BSB team) with the support of BMW Motorrad Motorsport for an assault on the 2014 road-racing programme.

The joint effort – BMW / Hawk Racing – has the support of BMW Motorrad Motorsport via the global sports programme, as the team seeks to emulate the great BMW victory of Georg Meier at the Senior TT exactly 75 years ago.

The team will be running both a Superstock BMW in Dunlop Racing livery and a Superbike BMW S 1000 RR in BMW Motorsport livery. Dunlop will compete on the roads for 2014 with the highlight being the prestigious Tourist Trophy races on the Isle of Man.

Michael Dunlop said: “I’m really pleased to have signed for such a strong and competitive team. The BMW S 1000 RR certainly has the speed for the TT and, with my experience, the support from BMW Motorrad Motorsport and Hawk Racing, I know we have a race-winning package. I really thought about sitting out this year, but I have found a team that I am really comfortable with and the support from BMW Motorrad Motorsport will make us a force to be reckoned with this year.”

Michael Dunlop is supported again in 2014 by Samco Sport with a full custom silicone hose service. In a choice of white hoses for this season please see this link where the very same S1000RR hose it can seen.

2014 is the 75th anniversary of Georg Meier’s historic win at the Senior TT in 1939, where BMW secured their first and only TT win. Georg became the first ever foreign winner of the Senior TT race; with team mate Jock West finishing second, on their Boxer-powered 500cc RS 255 Kompressors.

The BMW / Hawk Racing team will be jointly managed by BMW Motorrad UK and Stuart Hicken, fresh from the Buildbase BMW Motorrad team’s best ever performance in the 2013 British Superbike Championship. Building on their strong relationship and experience with BMW, the team has secured BMW Motorrad Motorsport support for the 2014 road racing programme.

Stuart Hicken, BMW / Hawk Racing Team Principal, said: “We are extremely pleased to have assembled such an experienced racing team. We have been working on it for a while and I genuinely believe that with Michael, the technical expertise from BMW Motorrad Motorsport and the BMW S 1000 RR, we have secured all the elements we need to be at the sharp end, challenging for a great result at the TT.”

Lee Nicholls, BMW Motorrad Marketing Manager, said: “We are so pleased to have secured Michael Dunlop to ride for BMW / Hawk Racing. His record speaks for itself and we are confident that, on a BMW S 1000 RR, he can dominate on the roads this season. Creating a team that will focus all its efforts on Michael will present BMW with a realistic chance of replicating our famous victory 75 years ago at the TT.”

As the FIM World Championship tour took a break, many of the top riders lined up to the start in Genk for a good cause. The eighth "Everts and friends" charity race featured not only current GP stars, but also great motocross names from which the host Stefan Everts himself was one of the most interesting in the start.

ICE1Racing team colors were presented by the Portuguese rider Rui Gonçalves, who made his way all the way to the final. Also the team owner Kimi Räikkönen together with the team manager Antti Pyrhönen met the motocross fans. Räikkönen teamed up in the motocross-cyclocross relay and finished in the top four.

"This is a great event, we have enjoyed the day tremendously. It is great to see so many motocross fans enjoying the sport and supporting such a good cause", commented Räikkönen after the race.

Pyrhönen took part along with the GP starts and made it through to the second round.

"I love riding and today was truly a great day to return to the racing tracks", cheered the team manager Antti Pyrhönen, who finished his career as a professional rider last season. "I think we were riding really well with Kimi today, but the arm pump kept us from claiming the victory", laughed Pyrhönen.

Marconi suffered a broken arm at the last round of WSS at Imola in Italy and the injury has not recovered enough for him to race in Russia, so he has withdrawn from the event.

Mossey is a podium finisher in British Supersport and at just 20 years-old has a promising future ahead of him in racing.

Mossey said: "I can't wait to get with the PTR team, I am so happy to be racing in Russia. This is my first time racing in WSS abroad, so my aim is to hopefully do a good job for the team and myself and see where it leads from there."

PTR Honda Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: "Unfortunately we had very late news from Luca on Saturday that he cannot ride for us due to a broken arm. That said, we have managed to secure Luke Mossey, a young British rider who we have been watching for a couple of years. He is a good talent.

"It is hard to step into WSS mid season with everyone up to speed but I am sure Luke will surprise people and put in a good performance - we are excited to see what he can achieve with PTR in Russia."

The eighth round of the World Supersport Championship is on Sunday 21st July at 1330 local time, with practice and qualifying sessions on the Friday and Saturday.

Kawasaki Unveils 2014 KX450F & KX250F

2014 KX250F
2014 KX250F
Kawasaki's off-road and motocross heritage stretches back forty years, the Kawasaki KX model line is justifiably famous and hugely successful in terms of race and Championship wins; the most recent of which being the domination of the 2013 AMA Supercross Championship by Ryan Villopoto on his factory KX450F.

Racebikebitz has the 2013 KX450F Samco Sport Silicone Hose Kit Available to order HERE.

Displaying many features developed by Villopoto and other top factory racers, the new 2014 KX250F and KX450F have been further refined and updated to deliver the race winning ability and season-long durability that Team Green machines are revered for.

For the KX250F, the headline news for the coming year is the addition of electronic launch control, a feature that will make it a “must have” bike in the MX2 paddock. Established as a hole-shot grabber for the KX450F, the addition of the simple to use left handlebar push-button feature for the 250cc machine adds an ever greater layer of desirability to the already highly successful package.

Samco Sport Silicone Hose Kits for the KAWASAKI KX250F are available HERE.

Also new on the KX250F are front engine mount revisions for better front wheel grip, new handlebar grips, modifications to the gear selector and gearbox selector dogs and revised settings for the SFF front fork and rear Uni-Trak suspension settings.

Still remaining is a huge power and traction advantage of dual fuel injectors allied to a straight inlet tract plus the ability to change engine map settings trackside with the aid of three “plug and play” options for normal, soft and hard pack tracks.

Riders who want to further fine-tune their mount – or look at several hours of recorded machine data – the optional factory Fi calibration kit will again be available for both the KX250F and KX450F making them among the most tuneable and easy to re-map machines in the paddock.

Having dominated the indoor AMA Supercross Championship again in 2013, Ryan Villopoto considers the KX450F as an ideal weapon of choice in the cut and thrust of a sport that is followed by millions in the USA and around the globe.

Changes to the incoming KX450F are naturally focused on keeping sacred what has become a formidable machine of choice for Supercross and MX1 riders while making small changes and upgrades to keep Kawasaki’s KX range leader in front of the chasing pack.

With revised settings, the highly adjustable PSF pneumatic front fork remains a key feature of the 450F and so too does the electronic launch control mode plus the bridge bottom piston technology both of which were developed by factory Kawasaki teams in the white heat of MX1 and Supercross competition.

July/August is the expected date for first release models to be available for sale.

Bad weather cancels opening stage of Ruta 40 In The HRC Honda CRF 450 Rally

Organisers of the 2013 Desafio Ruta 40 rally in Argentina were forced to cancel today’s opening stage due to bad weather which prevented any flying operations for the event’s helicopters.
Team HRC riders, Helder Rodrigues and Javier Pizzolito, completed the initial liaison ride in wet weather this morning for an 0715 start in preparation for today’s scheduled 372km stage from San Salvador de Jujuy to San Miguel de Tucumán.
However, as the weather deteriorated, the stage was cancelled and the riders moved to the intended destination via national roads, completing at total of 443km liaison for the day.
The first timed kilometers of the rally will be contested tomorrow in a special stage that will link San Miguel de Tucumán with San Fernando del valle de Catamarca. The stage will count on only one selective section of 346.51km and will begin at 0900. Team HRC general manager, Martino Bianchi, commented: “It is a real shame that this bad weather has started now, after we have enjoyed a week of fine weather since we arrived in Argentina. Hopefully the situation will be better for tomorrow’s special stage and we can finally get this rally underway.”
