Organisers of the 2013 Desafio Ruta 40
rally in Argentina were forced to cancel today’s opening stage due to bad
weather which prevented any flying operations for the event’s helicopters.
Team HRC riders, Helder Rodrigues and
Javier Pizzolito, completed the initial liaison ride in wet weather this
morning for an 0715 start in preparation for today’s scheduled 372km stage from
San Salvador de Jujuy to San Miguel de Tucumán.
However, as the weather deteriorated,
the stage was cancelled and the riders moved to the intended destination via
national roads, completing at total of 443km liaison for the day.
The first timed kilometers of the rally
will be contested tomorrow in a special stage that will link San Miguel de
Tucumán with San Fernando del valle de Catamarca. The stage will count on only
one selective section of 346.51km and will begin at 0900. Team HRC general
manager, Martino Bianchi, commented: “It is a real shame that this bad weather
has started now, after we have enjoyed a week of fine weather since we arrived
in Argentina. Hopefully the situation will be better for tomorrow’s special
stage and we can finally get this rally underway.”
